About Isabel
As an emerging artist, my art is an intense and often overwhelming emotional outlet. It is how I process the world around me. Colour and the raw tangled beauty of the world and humanity drive me. I want to capture memories and sensations of moments in time, places I've been, and places I've dreamt of visiting. I paint intuitively, allowing the colour and texture to guide me, creating explosive movement of life and light on the canvas. It feels like it's a second language that spills out of me, as though the art is an extension of myself.
I paint the palpable energy that I feel around me in forests, valleys, cliffs, sunsets, night skies and cities. I'm interested in places touched by humanity, though their innate beauty is often overlooked by passers-by. My hope is that a viewer will sense a presence in my paintings and experience a visceral reaction.
I work in multimedia, emphasizing texture with gridwork, ink, acrylics, drip/splatter and other found tools. Whatever is at hand can be turned to express emotion and life on the canvas.
I want to be remembered as a chaser of light and raw beauty - a Canadian artist who tapped into the essence of this country and poured it into art.
